Whitbourne Hall was built by Edward Evans of the Worcester vinegar firm – Hill and Evans, between 1860 and 1862 – not surprisingly the  house was sometimes referred to locally as ‘Vinegar Hall’!  Now a Grade II* listed building the hall and grounds are maintained by the residents of the 23 households which form Whitbourne Hall Community Ltd.

The gardens include a recently restored rockery, extensive woodland walks, an Italian garden and the walled kitchen garden which unusually has  the ‘back sheds’ inside the wall. The west wall retains short glass canopies indicating that it was constructed as a fruit wall. A range of Foster and Pearson greenhouses run along the outer sides of the south and part of the west walls. These are now undergoing a rolling programme of restoration, keeping some glasshouses under cultivation as others are repaired and re-glazed.

The walled kitchen garden has been in production continuously since the 1860s. It is now worked by residents of the apartments on an allotment system, using organic gardening techniques.

The House and Grounds are open to the public on the following Mondays from 11.00 – 4.00pm:

May – 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th; June – 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
